First steps in volunteering
Astrid began taking part in community assistance and vision-care campaigns organized by Factory Lens, helping with free eyeglass distribution and other donations.
Astrid is a young Peruvian volunteer who has taken part in charitable campaigns organized by Factory Lens since the age of seven. Through eyeglass distribution and donation activities, she has gained insight into community needs and developed an ongoing commitment to service.
Her journey is measured not by numbers, but by experiences: joining outreach efforts, recognizing needs, proposing ideas, and exploring vision-assessment technology.
Astrid began taking part in community assistance and vision-care campaigns organized by Factory Lens, helping with free eyeglass distribution and other donations.
During community visits, she noticed health-related needs among families and suggested including medicines and first-aid kits in later donations.
She became especially interested in the vision-care challenges faced by children and older adults while continuing to take part in outreach activities.
She began learning how to operate an autorefractor and the Essilor WAM 800, gaining exposure to equipment used in vision assessment.
Sembrando Miradas brings these experiences together to raise awareness of vision-care needs and encourage more young people to get involved in their communities.

At sixteen, Astrid began learning about the autorefractor and the Essilor WAM 800, instruments used in vision-assessment processes. This experience broadened her interest in the connections between technology, eye care, and community well-being.
A practical learning experience, not a professional qualification.
Listening to and understanding people’s circumstances.
Turning observations into practical ideas for support.
Taking part in community outreach over time.
Sembrando Miradas aims to make a history of service visible and show how young people can contribute through acts of solidarity. Astrid’s journey reflects a growing interest in bringing together learning, vision care, and community.
The outreach campaigns described were organized by Factory Lens, with Astrid participating as a volunteer and contributor. Sembrando Miradas documents that involvement.
